Restoration of a Grade I listed flat in a Regency-era property
This property was situated in a building originally built in the 1830s and divided into flats in the 1910s. ESCS worked with the client to restore this property in keeping with the original Regency style.
Conversion of a flat based in a historic building in keeping with its original features.
Covered in about 50 layers of paint, thick rental carpet and false walls, this property was in desperate need of an update. Because this flat was situated in a Grade I listed building, planning permission for any changes had to be obtained.
The clients, working with Shape Architecture, were granted planning permission to take out a non-load bearing wall and repurpose an old en-suite bedroom into a modern kitchen.
We removed the wall, taking care not to damage any original Regency mouldings. The carpet was removed, all of the floor boards were pulled up in order to insulate and sound proof the floor.
The original floor board were then sanded and stained to turn this property into a remarkable place. It is in keeping with the property character, yet has a modern kitchen which is functional and stylish.
